General Motors
Transio/Synthelogic was contracted in partnership with Siemens by General Motors to develop a Central Access System (CAS) enterprise security software - a one-of-a-kind solution. The uniqueness of the CAS application is due to the fact that it was designed to synchronize security data from 100+ facilities worldwide using 12 separate access control systems from 4 different system providers, working in myriad variations of server environments, databases, and configurations. No individual security software could provide such a solution due to legal issues with integrating into competitors' software, and no other individual provider to date has been able to tackle the project and create a functional solution to large corporations using security products from multiple providers. The CAS application consists of 2 separate applications - the CAS server and CAS client. The server software resides in GM's central facility, and the client software was integrated into each of GM's individual security systems at remote facilities. Each client maps data to and from the specific database schema of the specific security system installed at that location, translates to a single language, and communicates updates to and from the CAS server. The system was designed to use Java for the server and all clients for ease of portability between different server configurations and databases. The result of the CAS solution was that GM's facilities' security systems are now all interconnected, and any security permissions changes are instantly reflected across all facilities when synchronized. This result has yet to be duplicated in the security industry. General Motors Company, one of the world's largest automakers, traces its roots back to 1908. With its global headquarters in Detroit, GM employs 235,000 people in every major region of the world and does business in some 140 countries. GM and its strategic partners produce cars and trucks in 34 countries, and sell and service these vehicles through the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM's largest national market is the United States, followed by China, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Russia and Germany. |
